Budget Policy and Procedures: A Primer for Leaders of Academic Units
Academic leaders are expected to make budgetary decisions for their units or school, but often have little understanding of the flow of resources within the University. University budgets are very complex and different institutions employ different approaches that fit their needs and organization. Duke uses a Responsibility Center Management (RCM) model, where the decisions on how to use money are made by the individual schools that generate the revenue. In this workshop, we will discuss Duke's budgeting process, the different types of revenues and expenses and explain how endowments can and cannot be used and how central costs are allocated to different units. We will be joined by Interim Provost Jennifer Francis, Vice Provost for Finance and Administration, Amy Oates and Associate Dean for Finance & Administration for the Pratt School of Engineering, Rebecca Dupree who will present and answer your questions.
Workshop Speakers: Jennifer Francis, Interim Provost and Robert L. Dickens Distinguished Professor of Business Administration; Rebecca Dupree, Associate Dean for Finance & Administration for the Pratt School of Engineering; Amy Oates, Vice Provost for Finance and Administration
Workshop Moderator: Craig Henriquez, Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement
