A Look at the Nuts and Bolts of Faculty Retirement
For faculty considering retirement, a recent presentation and discussion provided an overview of logistical aspects of the retirement process, including information about maintaining health benefits and access to key Duke resources.
The Office for Faculty Advancement hosted the workshop as part of its new series focusing on late-career faculty transitions. In addition, the office is developing programs to engage faculty who have already retired and want to stay connected to Duke.
Kimberly Shoe, senior benefits analyst with Duke Human Resources, led the “nuts and bolts” part of the discussion and fielded a wide range of questions from the audience of nearly 100 faculty members. Joanne Peebles Wilson, professor emeritus of medicine, was on hand to share her experiences and offer advice.
Retirement FAQs
Following the online workshop, which was moderated by Assistant Vice Provost Maria Wisdom, HR staff provided a helpful FAQ sheet with information at a glance.
