        Strategies to Virtually Engage and Mentor Students during COVID-19

        Panelists shared tips and answered questions from faculty on how to maintain connection with undergraduate and graduate students while physically distanced. Topics included virtual teaching, holding student meetings, mentoring relationships as well as other forms of student engagement.

        In this follow-up conversation, participants had an opportunity to speak with Kimberly Blackshear for a more in-depth conversation about topics covered in the earlier well-being video. In particular, Kimberly provided more details about the resources available through PAS, shared strategies for encouraging open conversations and discussed the importance of self well-being.         How Can Faculty Help Promote Well-Being in the Duke Community during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

        Panelists provided practical tips for faculty to engage members of our community in meaningful conversation and offered guidance on how faculty can support individuals needing help coping with the crisis and direct them to the appropriate resources available at Duke. Panelists also provided an overview of the professional resources available to students, faculty and staff and suggested strategies for faculty to maintain their own well-being.         This conversation was an open discussion with experienced leaders and peers about the challenges of leading through the COVID-19 pandemic. Panelists offered strategies for unit leaders, including chairs, DGSs, and DUSs, to help support students, staff and faculty during these times. Participants also discussed resources that are available to support the members of their units.
