Leading an Academic Unit at Duke (LAUD) Workshop Series

The LAUD workshop series is designed for department chairs and other unit and program leaders across campus.

Department & Unit Leaders Retreat

This annual day-long program provides leaders of departments and units with the opportunity to learn about the broader university context and to engage with fellow leaders.

Duke Faculty Academy

The Duke Faculty Academy is a professional development initiative designed to support cohorts of Duke faculty as they collectively learn approaches to build capacity and develop successful initiatives that creatively improve experiences in their academic units, and amplify their professional impact throughout their career lifespan.

1:1 & Group Coaching

Faculty members have two options for receiving professional coaching from Maria LaMonaca Wisdom. They may apply for 1:1 coaching with the nomination of their department chair or sign up directly for group coaching. Department heads and other unit leaders may self-nominate for 1:1 coaching support related to leadership development.

Faculty Advancement Seed Grants

Seed grants are intended to provide a financial foundation for novel faculty-led development initiatives within academic units aiming to foster a sense of community and a welcoming and respectful climate for all members.

Duke Mentoring Commons

The Mentoring Commons is a virtual gathering place for faculty mentors to share with one another — and with the campus community — the diversity, vibrancy and power of impactful mentoring relationships at Duke.

Ivy+ Provost Leadership Fellows

Duke is a founding member of the Ivy+ Faculty Advancement Network (FAN), a consortium of national research universities. Selected Duke faculty take part in FAN’s annual Institute on Inquiry, Equity and Leadership in the Academic Department.

ACC Academic Leaders Network Fellows

This annual leadership development program includes activities and discussions to build awareness and effectiveness in the context of academic leadership. Selected Duke faculty engage with peers across the Atlantic Coast Conference on issues and trends in higher education.

Provost Faculty Fellows

This initiative introduces Duke faculty members to key leadership roles and responsibilities and areas of strategic focus of the university. Fellows are nominated by the deans of their respective schools or college and selected by the provost.

Graduate Faculty Fellows

Offered by The Graduate School in collaboration with the Office for Faculty Advancement, the program is intended to provide graduate faculty who aspire to leadership positions with the opportunity to explore those interests.
