Integrating Coaching Into Your Mentoring

What can academic mentors learn from professional coaches? Coaching is both a mindset and an evidence-based set of strategies that supports a person's learning and growth in a powerful, nondirective way. When you "mentor like a coach" you become more collaborative, more curious and more focused on what your mentee needs. In this workshop you'll learn the steps of a basic coaching conversation, practice on friendly colleagues and consider how coaching can enrich your mentoring.

Participants will be encouraged to do a small amount of prework for this session, which includes watching a couple of brief (~5 minute) videos. Please also come prepared to be coached (in a small group setting) on an actual ongoing issue or challenges.
